Vanessa Vaughan, 29, has Cystic Fibrosis. She was born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she attended Sacred Heart School of Halifax. In 2012, Vanessa graduated from Acadia University and was honored with her own convocation after missing the initial ceremony due to illness.
Sadly, Vanessa’s health has deteriorated necessitating a move to Toronto where she joins a long list of those awaiting suitable lungs for transplantation. It’s impossible to know how long the wait will last; our fervent hope is that, however long the wait, Vanessa will still be strong enough to accept the new lungs.
Transplant patients can face a two-year wait with estimated expenses of $50,000. Although the government looks after medical fees and some of the ancillary costs, it is up to the family to cover other living expenses. Among these expenses are an apartment, food, taxi fares to and from the hospital and airfare so that Vanessa’s family can visit her in Toronto to provide support.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 in Vanessa’s honour, so that money is not among the many worries for her family.
